As part of the Energy Asia 2025 Conference by Petronas - ReMeal Co-Founder, Wan Emir Astar, was invited to be part of a panel event for the session titled "The Rise of the Conscious Asian Consumer".

Alongside Wan Emir, the panel included M. Huzaini Ghazali, the Chief Strategy and Portfolio Office of Gentari, and Nat Vanitchyangkul, the Regional CEO (Asia) of ERM.

In this segment, the panel discussed how behavioural shifts in consumer patterns have driven sustainability across sectors. And how businesses have had to adapt to meet the growing trends.

Wan Emir highlighted how ReMeal takes both a tech-centric and data-centric approach in order to work towards a zero-waste lifestyle. ReMeal fills a gap in the market by creating a digital marketplace that allows vendors to sell their surplus perishables - rather than letting it go to waste.

Recent social media campaigns have highlighted the demand for Food Surplus apps, with many consumers commenting how this is a norm in Europe. ReMeal satisfies this desire by localising a proven business model which combines environmental sustainability with increasing revenue - a win-win scenario for businesses.

As a startup, speed and execution is key to the success of the business. In the session, Wan Emir highlighted how these characteristics were instrumental in landing partnerships with both the government of Malaysia, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
