Every year in Malaysia, it's normal to see headlines around the amount of food that gets wasted during the month of Ramadan. This goes against the spirit of Ramadan, and is one of the reasons we started ReMeal.

MySaveFood is a government led initiative by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). Through MySaveFood, organisations have been working together to alleviate this issue by redistributing surplus food from Ramadan bazaars to people in need. 60 tonnes of food was saved last Ramadan, and this coming year it is expected to increase as more bazaars will participate.

ReMeal was invited to the Ministry to explore a strategic partnership under the MySaveFood initiative. We proposed:

  1. Providing a technological platform to help with operations on the ground. This could involve anything from volunteer management, aggregating data to identify trends, to handling the logistics of the food redistribution. We will look to digitalise processes to increase efficiency and make it easier to scale nationwide.

  2. Lead an awareness campaign to educate people in ways to reduce food waste. This can involve a wide range of topics from tips on how to store food properly and safely, to even recipe ideas for "upcycling" some of the ingredients we normally throw away.

Time is short with Ramadan only 2 months away. We thank the KPDN Ministry for giving us this opportunity. And hope that together, we will make a real impact.
